Towards Global Competitiveness

As part of the achievement of the goal of real-life education, STI College Muñoz-EDSA envisions a community of learners and individuals who are globally competitive and are able to sell themselves in the market of the real-life in the outside world. We cannot deny that in order to survive and be successful in the world we live in, we have to possess good communication and leadership skills that would lead us towards the attainment of our dreams. And because English is the language widely used all around the globe, the STI College Muñoz-EDSA administration has taken several steps towards the achievement of this goal.

First, since 2013, the weekly special task of the faculty and staff is an English class where they get to learn and express themselves better in English. The English coaches are the facilitators who strive to enhance all the employees’ macro-skills in English namely: reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing. Of course, before we seek to produce a community of learners who are well in communications, we must first produce employees who can inspire and influence the students to become better in expressing themselves in English.

Another thing is that we started to embark on another journey in the pursuit of language learning and leadership. Last October 2013, some of the faculty and staff became members of ELITE Toastmasters Club. Toastmasters Club is an international club geared towards the enhancement of communication and leadership skills. It is founded in California by Ralph C. Smedley in 1924 and is now known all over the world as a non-profit organization which is focused on the individual’s self-paced improvement. And this year, we have started our own club by the name of Mystique Coolture Toastmasters Club which is gotten from the idea “My STI’s unique and cool culture”. As of now, we have 20 members from our branch who are very much willing to learn and enhance their skills. We are also looking forward to inviting guests and having members from other STI branches and our neighboring companies and organizations. Our club has been chartered last October 12, 2014 and we will have our charter presentation on November 28 (Friday), 6:00-9:00 p.m. We meet every second and fourth Friday of the month, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Lastly, since our main goal is to bring real-life education to students, we also make sure that our students have a share of what we learn. A new course, Intensive English is offered to graduating students to provide an avenue where they could practice applying the skills they have learned from their COMART classes. This is delivered in partnership with ELITE Institute whose teachers serve as English coaches for students. Another one geared towards student empowerment is the birth of an affiliate of Mystique Coolture Toastmasters Club, Mystique Coolture Gavel Club which is for students. Mystique Coolture Gavel Club meets at the Library Cozy Room, Mondays-Fridays, 1:00-2:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10:00-11:30 a.m.; and every second and fourth Saturday of the month, 9:00-11:00 a.m at Room 104, Annex B.

All these are for the empowerment of employees and students and are just a portion of the entire picture. That’s how we are here in STI College Muñoz-EDSA. We bring quality education towards global competitiveness as we continuously educate ourselves as well.
