College Celebrates First HRM Nutrition Month

STI College Muñoz – EDSA successfully celebrated its first HRM Nutrition Month held at the Audio – Visual Room and Kitchen Laboratory last July 29, 2011 with its theme of “Eat Right with Colors” which mainly aims to promote healthy lifestyle to the students.

The said event was a seminar and a competition as well which was primarily focused on lectures about good nutrition and proper foods to eat and on activities that will further the knowledge and hone the skills of the students on food and drinks selection and preparation.

First part of the event centered on good nutrition which was elaborated by guest speaker, Ms. Mary Anne D. Gatbonton, a Nutritionist Dietitian of Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines Inc. She pointed in her talk that students should eat the right kind of food at the right time with the right amount to intake. Additionally, she also advise the audience to practice proper and balance diet in order to live a healthy lifestyle.   A seminar on Food and Beverage Operations shortly followed facilitated by HR instructors, Ms. Jeanette Grata, Mr. Jomar Leabres, Ms. Irene Calivo and Ms. Irene Francia.

Second part of the event was the demonstration and competition portion where Ms. Analou Taguibao conducted a cooking demonstration on French Cuisine using different kinds of vegetables. It was then followed by Market Basket Contest (which centered on proper selection of ingredients for a particular menu) facilitated by Ms. Taguibao and Ms. Francia where John Brix Hondrada, Alfrey Fernandez and Elizabeth Dabalos became Gold Medalists; Angelo Facundo, Fredilyn Balicod and Julie King Dela Torre as Silver Medalists; and Donita Rose Hilario, Precious Mea Lugo and Analyn Jamis as Bronze Medalists. A Mocktail (Healthy Drink) Contest was also held facilitated by Ms. Jermaine Balanggoy, Mr. Ben Voltaire Nato and Mr. Leabres where Grace Geluz, Jason Sesno, Darveen Gelomio were announced Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists respectively while Brian Viray, Jester Dumanog, and Mae Ann Aniciete were Gold, Silver and Bronze Awardees for Essay Writing Contest with the same theme as the event.

The organizers were delighted with the response of the students to the event and were expecting a better nutrition month every year.
