The HTM Department did another marvelous job as they led the school in celebrating the annual nutrition month last July 30, 2015. The one-day event to enliven the perks of being fit and healthy, went from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and was participated in by students from across programs.

Different activities were spearheaded by different HTM coaches with the cooperation of some GE coaches. The activities in the morning were the Zumba Retro Contest spearheaded by Coach Erika Florrane Malang and Coach Jerosalem Bagaforo, Poster-Making Contest spearheaded by Coach Elenita Cabrera, and the Nutrition Seminar spearheaded by the HTM Coordinator Mercibel Alarcon. First year students from HTM learned a lot from the Nutrition Seminar with guest speaker Ms. Eden Ruta of the Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines.

The Food Booth Display started on lunch time and was enjoyed by all students and employees alike. But the lively happenings did not end there. In the afternoon, minds were challenged in the Nutri-Quiz Bee Contest headed by Coach KC Baquiran. Body, wit, and the spirit of collaboration performed an important part during the Nutri-Jingle Contest spearheaded by Coach Rose Ann Guiao, as well as the healthy body competition in Mr. and Ms. Healthy Bods headed by HTM Coordinator Mercibel Alarcon.

Another one to be proud of is an HRM student who participated in an inter-collegiate competition hosted by the De La Salle College of St. Benilde, the Manila Food and Beverage Exposition held last July 22-26, 2015 at The World Trade Center. Graduating student Darwin Floralde of HRM701A was coached by Mr. Franz Oreiro and Ms. Razel Dominguez for the OBP Flair Cup, a flairtending competition. Darwin competed against students from other prestigious schools like College of St. Benilde, Bulacan State University, University of the East – Caloocan and Manila, and Our Lady of Fatima University.

HTM’s another go as early as this year does not end with the nutrition month and Darwin’s participation. They have a lot in store for us in the coming months, for sure. For now, we say congratulations to all of them who spent time and effort to enhance their skills and show them to the world outside of STI.
