HealthHacks by STI College Muñoz-EDSA

STI College Muñoz-EDSA strikes again as our very own determined IT students joined another hacking event called HealhHacks last February 4-5, 2017 at Microsoft Makati, Philippines. HealthHacks is an overnight premier health hackathon event for students in the Philippines which was participated in by almost 20 teams coming from different colleges and universities such as University of the Philippines Diliman, De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, Ateneo de Manila University, and of course, STI College Muñoz-EDSA. The objective of the event is to hack health applications to look for possible necessary developments.

The hackathon started with a pitching of the problem that the team would like to hack. Team STI Muñoz consisting of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students namely Jonel Belandres, Eric Jhon Reyes, Edgardo Loteria, and Ryan James Indangan pitched their problem about having a healthy lifestyle by doing outdoor or indoor activities. The problem is that not all individuals are motivated to commit to engaging in different activities. With that, Team STI Muñoz created a website where the user can find people within their common interests and collaborate with each other to plan for a fitness lifestyle. In this website, the user can compete with others by joining activities as much as they can.

Though team STI Muñoz did not make it to the finals, their output received praises from the mentors and judges. According to the team members, this event opened up new ideas and opportunities for them to venture more in their chosen field of study. In fact, they are excited to participate once more to this kind of competitions.

HealthHacks PH will be held again next year and two of this year’s participants will be joining it again. Hail to STI College – Muñoz EDSA, the members of the team, and their mentors, Mr. Jay C. Rico, Mr. Julius Yves Battung, and Ms. Rachel V. Diano, because they aspire to make a positive difference.
