Deisyre E. Sacay

Name: Deisyre E. Sacay (Ms. STI)

Age: 20

Year/Course: 3rd Year, Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management

Hobbies: Singing, Dancing, Playing Volleyball, Watching Movies

Where would you be five to ten years from now?

“Five to ten years from now, I see myself working in an airline company as a cabin crew/flight attendant”

Who inspires you?

“The person who inspire me is Jen Barangan, a former flight attendant in Cebu Pacific, and a Tiktok influencer. She inspires me to not give up on my dreams as she was not able to be an FA immediately, but she didn’t give up. Eventually, she achieved her dream job.”

For Deisyre, Des, to her schoolmates, the best parts of joining the competition are the application of learnings, confidence building, and character development. Of course, these are paired with the desire to meet or even exceed expectations that if not handled well, may lead to anxiety. Nonetheless, Des held on tight and never let any insecurity beat the best of her. She kept on becoming better not just for those who look up to her, but more importantly, for herself. This experience is something she will forever cherish. Now, she is ready for more beauty and brains pageants in the future!

Eli John P. Tayamen (Vocalist)

Name: Eli John P. Tayamen (Vocalist)

Age: 22

Year/course: 2nd year, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

Hobbies: Sleeping/Aquascaping/Playing Valorant and League of Legends/playing guitar/songwriting.

Where would you be five to ten years from now?

“In five to ten years, I envision myself pursuing my passion by working in the industry and starting my own startup business or company.”

Who inspires you?

“First and foremost, God is my inspiration. Then there was my mother, who was there for me from the beginning. She was a very supportive mother, so I see her as my inspiration for the competition I entered.”

According to Eli, the best part about competing is hearing the crowd singing and shouting. It made him feel like he is really a performer making a change, expressing himself on stage. It was a scary experience for him at first, but the crowd’s singing and shouting made it all worth all the doubts, fears and worries.

Andrea Myles Maghanoy (Drummer)

Name: Andrea Myles Maghanoy (Drummer)

Age: 19

Year/course: 2nd year, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.

Hobbies: Photography, Playing instruments.

Where would you be five to ten years from now?

“I see myself as a lady who is financially secure, had good health, and is well-established.”

Who inspires you?

“In all honesty, my family is what drives me the most in life, and my mother is the person I most admire. She’s the one that jolted me out of adolescence, really. Her virtues, such as her devoted personality, order, humility, and compassion, greatly inspire me.”

When asked about the best and worst parts of the experience, Andrea shared that the audience’s enjoyment and positive reception of their music really helped them improve their performance. However, the pressure with juggling practices and school tasks was real. Her advice to students?
“It’s not easy to build confidence in yourself because you’re nervous, but trust me that when you get out of your comfort zone, you’ll see that you’ll bring out something better, and when you do that, it’s a great feeling.”

John Lorence Magat (Bassist)

Name: John Lorence Magat (Bassist)

Age: 21

Year/Course: 2nd Year, Computer Engineering

Hobbies: Playing musical instruments

Where would you be five to ten years from now?

“I can see myself successful in my chosen career.”

John Lorence’s family and loved ones inspire him. With this experience, he learned that he cannot please everybody because  while there are people cheering for you, there will also be people discouraging you. What’s important is that you keep on learning to be your better version. He further encourages the students to learn more about their talents.

Ralph Jean A. Ancheta (Lead Guitarist)

Name: Ralph Jean A. Ancheta (Lead Guitarist)

Age: 20

Course: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Hobbies: playing guitar, playing in gigs and solving Math problems

Where would you be five to ten years from now?

“I see myself as a performer on stage with my band.”

Who inspires you the?

                “Dimebag Darell and Marty Friedman.”

For Ralph, the best part of the experience is competing with STI bands from different branches. The worst part, however, is the difficulty in managing different member schedules for practice and school. Moreover, Ralph motivates his schoolmates to always take the opportunity, win or lose.

“Always believe in yourself and never compare yourself with others.”

His band, JAMSOC, was formed last year with the help of their Coach, Mr. Edwin Nacpil. All members of this band were transferees who found a new home in STI College Muñoz-EDSA. They believe that they “make music not to impress but to express”.

Jhon Burn C. Villamor

The Strengthening of Computer Engineering and Technology Education in STI College Muñoz-EDSA

One of our Computer Engineering students, Jhon Burn C. Villamor was privileged to be chosen as National Capital Region’s representative to the first ever International Research Conference on Computer Engineering and Technology Education (IRCCETE) last January 19-21, 2023 held at Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte under the categories C Programming Competition and CpE Challenge 2023 National Level.

For Jhon, a 4th-year student of STI College Muñoz-EDSA, attending the said event was an opportunity to develop technical skills, build networks while collaborating with other competitors, and grow emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. He further shares that as a student, he was able to develop his individuality and character, as the competitions further developed his interest not just in programming and problem solving, but also in socializing with others and collaborating with teams – skills that are highly valued by employers.

Jhon encourages other students to join conferences and competitions like this as a means of not just enhancing skills, but also adding value to themselves. He further adds that the anxiety one will overcome will go a long way in boosting one’s self-esteem and character. To Jhon, joining events like this is not just about winning, but about taking advantage of the learning opportunities that will shape the future professional one is to become.

Aside from joining events like this, the institution also further improves technology education through their mentors Engr. Ramil Madriaga and Engr. Devie Patricio, who passed the CPECB or Computer Engineering Certification Board, a SEC-registered organization whose main purpose is to give certifications to graduates of the Computer Engineering program to the citizens of the Republic of the Philippines.

“His Sentimental Love”

Written by: Princess Kiana U. Soniega, SHS – Tourism Operations, STI College Dagupan

“Wife, please come back” Ivo said looking at me sincerely
“And, Cut! Very nice! Let’s proceed to the next scene” said by the director
My personal assistant, Anna, immediately gave me a tissue to wipe my tears.
“Thanks” I winked at her
“No problem”
I am currently at the taping of ‘His Sentimental Love’ this is actually the last part of the story and probably our last taping.
By the way, I am Roxanne Villareal, The lead actress and ahm—feel free to call me Roxie, that’s my screen name.
“Hey Rox!”
I gave him a sullen glance when he called my name =__=
“Why do you keep on following me?” I asked with my famous ‘Roxie deadly tone’
“I’m not following you, I just wanna ask you for dinner” he replied and I just rolled my eyes
He looked at me as if he’s saying ‘You really have an attitude huh?
tss
“I’m not hungry so, you go and have your dinner with yourself tss” I said and walked away from him.
I don’t know why but I always feel irritated when Ivo’s around.
Like he’s the key who can turn on my bitchy side aish!
And what’s worse, I’m always—as in always having a dream about him. They seems so real, damn![read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]
“Hey Rox, please. Just this time. Then, I promise, after the film I won’t disturb you anymore”
Shock formed in my face, is he really that desperate?
Wait? Why do I feel like I’m hurt?
No! erase erase!
It would be better if he was no longer in my life.
“Just this time” I said. He just smiled at me
But there’s something in his smile, pain… I can tell
We took our way out the place.
“There you go, wife” he said and then opened the door for the passenger’s seat
“We’re not in taping, no need to act like husband and wife tss” I reminded him
“I know” he said
psh! He really loves to annoy me =___=
Silence filled the atmosphere while on the way
He stopped the car in front of a seafood restaurant
“What’s taking them so long?” I’m being irritated here, were waiting for almost thirty minutes now
“Chill, wife. They’re still cooking it”
“We’re not in the set” I said coldly
“I know” he replied
“Stop calling me ‘wife'”
“Why would I?”
“Are you trying to make me laugh? I’m not your wife, duh”
“You’re not YET my wife” he whispered
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Just keep in your mind that, not all of the characters or stories we’re portraying are just the authors imagination, some are history
I became silent, thinking about what he just said. Eh? Why do I feel like he wants to tell me something?
“By the way, do you know my full name?” he asked
Why does he suddenly asked?
Ivo Maxwell? Wait, I think something is missing? Nah, Ivo Maxwell it is.
“Of course I do. Ivo Maxwell” I stated
Sorrow suddenly became visible in his eyes.
What’s his problem? Did I said something wrong?
“That’s not my full name” I heard disappointment in his voice
I just shrugged my shoulders and continued eating. We need to hurry, I just received a text from Anna saying the next scene is about to start in 30 minutes.
After we finished our meal, he drove back to the set.
“Nothing, just keep in your mind that not all of the characters or stories we’re portraying are just the authors’ imagination, some are history”
Ivo’s words suddenly popped in my mind for unknown reason. What is that supposed to mean? Aish! It’s giving me head ache
“What took you so long?” Mr. Clifford asked
He’s angry
“Sorry direk” I apologized
The makeup-artists took care of me before the last scene starts.
After a few moments, we heard the bell rang as a sign that the scene will start in a minute
We’re now taking the last scene at the hospital room where my character is still unconscious.
They gave us instructions, I made sure that I memorized the script clearly.
I lie down at the hospital bed and closed my eyes while Ivo did his part.
“Wife, please don’t leave me. Please come back” Ivo said
I felt drops of tears touched my cheek. He’s crying.
He held my hand.
This is the part after I had my brain surgery because of brain tumor.
After a few moments, I made my act, I opened my eyes as if I’m awake from years of being asleep.
I looked at Ivo and remained silent.
I’m waiting for his line as my cue to start acting
“You came” a lot of emotions are visible in his face. Love, sadness and fear.
A tear dropped from his eyes.
“wh-who are you?” I asked weakly
“You really can’t remember me, do you?” he then said with disappointment
I remained quiet
“This is me, your boyfriend for almost 10 years” he said
Wait wait wait! What? Did he lost?
He supposed to say “I am your husband, Roxane” instead of that
Yes, Roxane is also my character’s name and he is Ivo.
How weird.
I waited for the director to cut the scene but he didn’t so I just continued acting
Why is that? Didn’t he noticed what Ivo said?
But…
This scenario seems so familiar to me…
“I-I d-don’t know you” I said
“Don’t you have even a slightest memory of me?”
I slowly shook my head
He gently held my chin and faced me to his direction.
“Wife, please remember me. I don’t know if I can take this anymore. It’s too hard”
He held my hand while looking at my eyes directly… those brown eyes. For some reason, my heart beats abnormally like there’s no tomorrow.
“Primitivo Lauren Maxwell” I said, the words spontaneously came out of my mouth
He smiled
“Yes, It’s me, wife”
Memories flew in my mind like how the water flows in the river.
Our memories, my dreams—and the act, they’re all true. It really happened. This whole set is part of my memory. I remembered everything.
Ivo did this for me?
It’s like history repeating itself.
I looked at him, I can’t help it but to cry.
I remembered how he calls me ‘Wife’ back then. It’s his endearment to me.
‘Even if we’re not yet married, I’ll call you wife, because I know, You’re my beloved, my other half and the one that I can’t live without. I know I’ll marry you someday so what’s wrong in calling you ‘wife’? “
I delivered my gaze to everyone. I know them all.
All of my dreams, they’re not just dreams, they’re memories. It really happened.
Then, I remembered the title of our film.
“His sentimental Love”
I looked at Ivo
“Thank you… for helping me find my home again“ I said
“No. Wife, Thank you… for coming back to us” he replied
END

Roxanne lost her memories after having her brain surgery. Ivo, her long-time boyfriend did everything to bring her memories back. He conducted a film which recalls what happened to his and her life from the very first start of their love story hoping that she could recognize him and come back to his life.[/read]

Shine

“No man is an island” is how the cliché goes, and for these two Psychometricians, everything is possible when there are people around you who support you.
Reigmar C. Maceda, 27 years old, and Charlene Joyce I. Amoroso, 24, are two graduates of STI College Muñoz-EDSA Batch 2019 who passed the recently-held Licensure Examination for Psychometricians. Their journey to this success hadn’t been easy, but they learned that with determination and support of family members, friends, teachers, and the school, students can reach their goals.
Reigmar is the eighth of nine siblings. Despite their family’s financial difficulty, his father who was a construction worker and his mother who was a laundrywoman worked really hard in order to send them to school. He was able to enroll in a State University for an Education Degree and joined the school’s chorale to be a scholar. However, he had to stop studying because his family couldn’t provide for his needs anymore. He started working at different BPO companies at the age of 17 to be able to help his family and decided to go back to his studies on his 9th year of employment. This time, he told himself that nothing and no one can ever stop him. He enrolled in AB Psychology in STI, worked at night, and went to school during the daytime. It was tough and he almost gave up. He didn’t enroll for one semester thinking he couldn’t make it anymore. Thankfully, one of his siblings helped him get up and achieve his dreams of earning a degree. He quit being a call center agent because he didn’t want to compromise his health, and applied for a home-based job instead. Before he knew it, he’s done with thesis and OJT, and even done receiving his diploma on stage. A few months after, he is already a registered Psychometrician with a job offer for January 2020, never saying “never” to his dreams.
Charlene was a student-athlete who was never sure of what career path to take. She used to be an Information Technology student from another university who diligently worked on every task assigned to her. One day, it hit her that she’s doing her best for the wrong reasons of pleasing others and trying to prove her worth. She eventually got tired of the heavy workload she’s pressured to accomplish and decided to stop studying. A few years later, a friend helped her get back on her feet and convinced her to not let herself slip away. She enrolled in AB Psychology at STI, not particularly taking interest in the program but with the thinking that she should start studying again if she doesn’t want things to fall apart. Fortunately, her teachers and newly-found friends were able to help her regain her confidence and accomplish things for herself and not for anyone else. With the support of her family during the review and examination period, she finally realized that she is in no competition with anyone. She knows she can do things if only she would believe in herself and where she came from. That’s why with pride, she wore her STI shirt on the examination day.
These are the stories of our freshly-produced Psychometricians. They proved that if we believe in ourselves, put our hearts and minds on the goal, and have the support of the people around us, we can truly and freely shine.

Sinong (Hindi) Baliw: A Mental Health Awareness Program

Despite the number of people suffering from the “silent destroyer” a.k.a depression, mental health is still considered a taboo to some, a restricted societal topic, if not a defying issue to most. However, it cannot be denied that this has become a pressing concern in the recent years with the growing number of cases with mental health issues. This is the reason a program was created by STI College Muñoz-EDSA run by some selected members of its Psyclique Society (the official club of AB Psychology students) to create awareness, build avenues for wellness, and empower individuals to win over their mental health battles.[read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]
This Mental Health Awareness Program is titled “Sinong (Hindi) Baliw” to eradicate the stigma the society has when it comes to discussing the topic. Mental health is as vital as any other fitness and wellness program. We just have to look for ways on how we could educate ourselves and be mindful of its causes, as well as the possible ways on how we could prevent it.
This empowerment program is a whole day workshop dedicated to one’s understanding of self, leading to a positive outlook in life. For inquiries, please call 9208645.[/read]

Discovering the Right Path

STI College Muñoz-EDSA, in its mission to serve more and more teens, goes to various partner schools to help spread awareness that will guide the students in discovering the right path that suits their personality. In the past couple of months, the institution has been serving its purpose with various activities.[read more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]

Mobile School

The mobile school is a school inside a bus that provides an avenue for students to learn image manipulation. It can accommodate 20 students in one session that runs from 30 minutes to one hour. With this activity, the students discover their love and talent for arts, particularly photo-editing.

Student’s Career Opportunity and Personality Evaluator (SCOPE)

This online assessment examination identifies the students’ suggested program to be taken based on their personality. It further recommends the things they have to practice or learn in order for them to perform well in their chosen career. This good news is shared to students through Career Orientation Seminars provided to nearby schools.

Teen Empowerment Workshop

This workshop helps cultivate a victorious outlook in life for teenagers in the areas of their mind, body, heart, soul and passion. We also hold workshops geared towards mental health and financial literacy. At the end of the day, attendees become more responsible of their choices and actions in life.
There is never a limit to who our future leaders can be. That’s why it’s best for us to train them the way we should go as early as we can. In this little way, we might not know how these affect their eternity and who they can be.[/read]
